What would you do in your final hours? Would you gather your loved ones to talk about legacy, to say your goodbyes, to settle unfinished business? In John 13, we find Jesus doing something that stops us in our tracks. With full knowledge that betrayal and death are hours away, he gets up from the table, wraps a towel around his waist, and washes his disciples' feet. This was not a symbolic gesture performed from a place of power. This was the lowest act of service imaginable in that culture, reserved for indentured servants and slaves. And yet the one who created the universe got on his knees to do it. The passage confronts us with a stunning truth: Jesus served not despite knowing who he was, but because of it. His security in his identity with the Father is what freed him to go low. That challenges us to ask a hard question about our own service. Are we serving out of a deep, settled knowledge of who we are in Christ, or are we performing for approval, waiting for the accolades, only showing up when it is convenient? This message calls us to examine the foundation from which we give, and invites us to discover that the most radical service flows from the most secure identity.
