This powerful message from John 1:1-5 challenges us to see Jesus for who He truly is, not who we've created Him to be in our minds. We're confronted with an uncomfortable truth: many of us treat Jesus like a genie in a bottle, calling on Him only when we need something, rather than living in daily relationship with Him. The Gospel of John reveals three crucial aspects of Jesus' identity. First, He is the revelation of life itself—eternal, sustaining every breath we take from the beginning of time. Second, He is the illumination that exposes our darkness and provides direction, much like a GPS guiding us through unknown territory. Third, He is the activation of our faith, calling us to respond by walking toward His light. The sermon draws on the story of Elijah from 1 Kings, showing how God sustains us both on mountaintops of victory and in wilderness moments of fear and doubt. The central question we must answer is whether we'll allow Jesus to be our actual life, or continue navigating in darkness. This isn't about having it all together—it's about seeing Him clearly and receiving the life He offers, which promises not comfort necessarily, but sustainability, provision, and purpose that extends through all eternity.
