When You Don’t Know What To Do Next
What do we do when life takes a turn we never saw coming? In John 14:1-12, we find the disciples in one of their most disorienting moments. Judas has just slipped out into the night to betray Jesus, Peter has just been told he will deny his Lord three times, and now Jesus is saying he is going somewhere they cannot follow. The ground is shifting beneath their feet. Into that anxiety, Jesus speaks words that cut through the confusion: he is the way, the truth, and the life. This message invites us to sit in that upper room with the disciples and feel the weight of expectations colliding with reality. Following Jesus does not always look the way we imagined it would. Some seasons bring more pain than we bargained for, and some prayers seem to go unanswered in the ways we hoped. Yet the invitation here is not to a roadmap or a strategy but to a person. Jesus does not hand Thomas a set of directions. He offers himself. When we feel lost or blindsided, the call is not to figure out the next step on our own but to press deeper into relationship with the one who is himself the destination.
