A Paradox: Living By Dying

What if the very thing standing between us and true life is our desperate grip on the life we already know? That is the paradox at the heart of John 12, where Jesus uses the image of a grain of wheat to reveal something profound: a seed that never falls into the ground and dies never becomes anything more than a seed. But a seed that surrenders itself to the soil bears fruit beyond measure. Jesus is not simply describing agriculture. He is describing himself, and he is describing us. His death was not a tragedy that interrupted a good story. It was the very point of the story. It swallowed up death itself, reconciled the unrighteous to God, and released the Holy Spirit into the world. The fruit of his dying is our living. This message calls us to sit with a deeply uncomfortable question: what are we unwilling to surrender in order to follow him? Because the life Jesus offers is not an upgrade of what the world already provides. It is something the world is entirely incapable of producing.
